This internship is located within the Resident Coordinator Office in Manama, Bahrain.

The duration of an RCO internship in partnership with ESCWA is normally two months on a full-time basis - this may be exceptionally extended for a maximum period of six months. The internship certificate is awarded on the recommendation of the supervisor.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. The United Nations accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of the intern or costs arising from injury, illness or death that may occur during an internship. Applicants for internship must show proof of valid medical insurance coverage to cover the full period of the internship at the duty station and provide a medical certificate of good health prior to the commencement of the internship. The United Nations accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to personal effects that may occur during the internship. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

**Responsibilities**:
Under direct supervision of the RCO Economist, the Intern will:

- Research, analyze and present information gathered from diverse sources to support the preparation of the Common Country Analysis;
- Support towards the capture, management and analysis of data/information on population groups who are at risk of being left behind (LNOB);
- Support implementation of qualitative data collection among the LNOB population groups, including development of questionnaires, facilitating field interviews/KII, preparing interview reports, processing and compiling information;
- Support towards the design and development of innovative representations of data/information;
- Provide substantive inputs for the preparation of the CCA LNOB section;
- Carry out any other additional duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the Economist;
- Contribute to the communications of the projects with substantial technical inputs and analysis and briefs;
- Assist in the administrative management aspects of program management including but not limited to review and reporting and procurement.

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants must:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above);
2. Applicants must:
(b) have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and
(c) have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position advertised, fluency in English is required; and fluency in Arabic is desirable.
